What You Need to Know About Prom Safety and Parent/Teen Contracts

Have a Safe Prom 2014

No teen or parent wants to think about the fact that prom is actually one of the most dangerous nights of the year for young people. Even if you’re confident that your teen has the maturity to abstain from underage drinking or substance abuse, they could be at risk simply by being on the road with other inexperienced or compromised drivers. Or as Michelle Goldman, a mother of a teen daughter who died in a car crash after prom 2007 found the hard way, they may simply lack the experience to be on the road with friends. “"Six kids are a big distraction to a newly licensed teenager. I thought drinking and driving was the highest teenage driving danger. It's not.”

What You Can Do About It

On an average day in the U.S., around 11 teens die in car wrecks, and these numbers reach record heights during prom season. You’re not powerless, and experts urge parents to plan an official conversation with their teens and draft a contract. According to Susan Dulchak, head of Allstate Insurance’s Center for Teen Driver Safety, “Parents' involvement and influence on the teen...experience can literally mean the difference between life and death for their child.” We’ve compiled some critical talking points about safety for the conversations you and your teen have before prom night rolls around:

1. How Are You Getting There?

Even if your teen is a safe driver, the fact remains that they’re simply less experienced due to the relatively short amount of time they’ve been licensed. Your initial talks about prom night safety should focus on finding a viable alternative to carpooling with friends or relying on friends for rides. Limo service is among the best options. Teens will ride safely in the hands of an experienced Chauffeur, and they won’t have to suffer the horrible embarrassment of being dropped off by Mom and Dad.

2. Consequences for Substance Abuse

The chances that your teen will have an opportunity to sneak off to the bathroom partway through the dance for some alcohol or other substances are pretty high. Your conversations should touch on the risks of underage drinking and drug use, as well as consequences the teen will have to face at home. It’s critical that all parties understand the school’s policy if the teen is caught drinking on the premises, as well as the limo company’s policy on teen drinking. While rules can vary slightly, most providers have a policy of Chauffeurs searching teen’s bags before they can be brought inside the vehicle. If alcohol is discovered inside, the vehicle will likely be pulled over and the parents will be required to pick up the teen.

3. Planning an Itinerary

Parents and teens should work together well before the big day to plan a schedule that’s agreeable to both parties. Depending on your teen’s wishes, you could reach compromise on plans. Instead of an unsupervised hotel party, you might reward your teen with spa time before the dance. Your schedule should be part of the contract, and include designated times throughout the evening when parents can check-in by phone.

4. Writing a Contract

Both teens and parents should agree on behaviors that can be written into a signed contract for the dance. Parents could agree to avoid calling aside from the times outlined in the contract. Teens may agree to avoid inappropriate dancing and drinking, and call three or four times throughout the night. The contract should include consequences

ways to Accomplish in Airport Sedan Service

Airport Sedan Service May Be the Answer

Whether you travel for work once a year or twice a month, knowing where to say no is crucial. Making the switch to airport sedan service could be the answer. Sure, it may cost a bit more than a cab, but you could be amazed at the mental health and time you’re able to reclaim as a passenger. Here are several of the smartest ways to make your time on the way to the airport really count:

1. Clear Your Head

How often do we even take the time to just think about the week ahead, our trip, or what needs to be done? You probably can’t afford to spend the time on the way to the terminal just clearing your head, but give yourself a few minutes to think through what’s on your mind and ensure that you have your priorities straight.

2. Ask Yourself the Magical Question

Baubuta references a magical question for professionals: “what tasks can I do that will give me the largest return?” Determine the work in your queue that will prepare you for your work or boost your division at the office. Plan out what you’ll accomplish in the car, while waiting to board, and in the air.

3. Eliminate Some Tasks

Do you really need to edit a document for a colleague, or can it be reassigned to your assistant? Sometimes, the most empowering thing you can do for yourself is to cross tasks off your list without doing them. Delegate, reassign and give yourself permission to not do it all for once.

4. Do Your Toughest Work First

Procrastination is caused by an acute case of not wanting to mess up. Stop nervously scrolling through your Twitter feed while you stress out about how hard your most-important task while be, and just jump in with both feet. Knowing you’ll be done before you even get to your seat on the plane can set your trip in motion on exactly the right note.

5. Eliminate Distractions

One of the biggest challenges facing modern professionals is the abundance of distractions. You’ve probably got dozens on your phone alone, from mobile games to social media and RSS feeds. Determine what you can streamline or even remove entirely. Perhaps you’ll decide to keep distracting apps on your phone, but use your tablet for productivity-only.

6. Use the Simplest App Possible

Sometimes complex apps make a difference in our work, like the wonderful benefits of Expensify and CardMunch. Other times, we spend much more time than we realize trying to develop a new process in order to work efficiently in an unfamiliar format. Evaluate your approach constantly, and determine whether that latest app is actually costing you more time than you realized. It may be beneficial to commit to using the simplest tool at all times, whether that’s a brand-new app from the iStore or a simple notebook and paper.

7. Do One Thing at a Time

When you multitask, you can’t perform at the highest level possible. Your mental and physical energy are dedicated to splitting your focus, instead of truly giving all of your effort towards a single task. Your work suffers, and you’ll spend more time jumping in between tasks. Stop multitasking, and resist the temptation to pick this nasty habit back up.

Stay Organized in Premier Limo Service

If you ever wonder why some of your road warrior colleagues seem to sail through business trips, and return to the office looking refreshed, it isn’t because they have an elusive gene that makes them impervious to feelings of burnout or exhaustion. More likely, they’ve mastered the art of how to organize their itineraries, time, and luggage optimally for executive travel. The most effective business travelers are typically highly organized and focused. These are the people who are unusually well-prepared to maximize their time at 35,000 feet and in premier limo service to work on their to-do lists. We’ve curated some of our favorite organization tips to make your next travel assignment less of a nightmare and more of a breeze:

1. Become a Checklist Person

If you aren’t a checklist person, it’s probably time to become one for the sake of preparation for your next executive travel. Make a list well in advance of your trip, and put items on your calendar if you have any errands to run or paperwork to get in order before you leave. If you’re traveling internationally, it’s prudent to start preparations much further ahead. If your organizational center is your smartphone or tablet, consider the aptly named Best Checklist App as a tool. It offers a highly flexible format so you can customize items and deadlines according to your needs.

2. Take a Copy of Your Itinerary

If anything goes awry on the road, you never want to waste precious time sorting through your work email to find reservations or trying to call the corporate travel department at the home office to retrieve information. If your organization doesn’t prepare your itineraries, take the time to make your own. Compile information in an app such as TripIt so your premier limo service, flight, and hotel information is just a few clicks away. If you’ll be traveling internationally or taking long flights, it’s likely wise to take a printed copy in a clear, plastic protective sleeve in case you lose power or connectivity.

3. Become a Packing Master

Packing is a pain point for travelers. Let’s be honest, very few of us actually enjoy the process of engineering the perfect suitcase or carry-on bag. Travelers are often advised to approach their road wardrobe in terms of layers, so they’ll be well-prepared for a variety of weather situations. Think of packing your luggage in the same terms, to both streamline your journey through the security line and speed your unpacking once you reach the hotel. Layer heaviest items on the bottom, and lighter clothes on top to minimize the possibility you’ll have to iron anything. Place anything that will need to be removed at security, including liquids and electronics at the top of your carry-on to prevent digging before the body scanners.

You Don’t Have Reliable Transportation

If you’ve opted for a rental car in a new city, especially in a large city, chances are you’re adopting a set of frustrations that simply aren’t worth it. From getting lost on your way to meetings to the general frustrations associated with parking and navigating a new city, you’ll likely find that renting a car on a business trip simply isn’t worth it.
Cabs are in the same ballpark. When you’re on a tight schedule and often need effective transportation at the drop of a hat, a cab simply isn’t your best bet. Especially if you need a cab during rush hour, finding one at a moment’s notice might prove a challenge, and there’s never a guarantee that a cab driver will know exactly where you need to go.
Booking chauffeured transportation is the best way to go during your business trip. You’ll have a local expert driver who knows how to get where you need to go. You’ll have punctual transportation when and where you need it, and you’ll have the luxury and solitude of a commute that you can use as you see fit, whether it’s for a power nap or to get extra work done.

You Pick the Wrong Restaurant for a Client Dinner

This is another executive travel misery that can have serious consequences. Making a great impression on a potential or current client is highly important, and the restaurant you choose says a lot about your judgment, professionalism and whether the client will like you.
Research is vital. Don’t expect to just pop into town and choose a random restaurant that has a good rating on Yelp!. Your chauffeur will be a local expert well versed in the legitimately good restaurants in the area. He or she can offer you a list to work with throughout your trip.
Executive travel is full of opportunities for mishaps and miseries. Avoid them as best you can with research, preparation and a backup plan.

Don’t Let These Corporate Travel Woes Get You Down

Traveling for business can be a harrowing experience, especially in a new city. From trying to find the proper terminal at the airport to simply being dissatisfied with your accommodations, there are plenty of aspects of travel that have the potential to ruin an otherwise productive business trip.
Being prepared for the worst is an important part of avoiding disaster in a new city, and for executive travelers, a tight schedule and lack of sleep can exacerbate otherwise ordinary travel issues. To help you prepare for some of the worst that can happen during your executive travel experience, we’ve compiled a list of some travel miseries that must be avoided at all costs.

Your Hotel Room is a Flop

We can mean many things by calling your hotel room a “flop”; this could mean that your room has an unsavory location in the hotel, such as near the elevators or by the ice machine. It could also mean that your room is dirty, your bed is uncomfortable, the hotel’s staff is rude and unaccommodating or that the general atmosphere of the place is unsuited to your work load.
You have to remember that your hotel is the place where you will get the sleep that is vital to your productivity. Your hotel is also the place where you’ll get extra work done, prep for a presentation, contact colleagues and unwind after a long day.
You can never do enough research when it comes to the hotel you choose for your corporate trip. Know which hotel chain or single hotel has the most comfortable beds and the amenities that you need to be optimally productive while also enjoying the comforts you deserve.
